Spring Break 2O1O
This spring break was amazing, everything I thought it would be. It all started when my mom my brother and I decided to give my grandparents a surprise visit. It was a long way there, but it was all worth it. Before we went to their house we stopped to do a little bit of shopping in San Diego. Next, it was off to their house. For that whole week we went to the movies, did a little bit more shopping, eat out, and get lots of ice cream. While I was with my grandparents, my grandma saw that I could be a good candidate to paint, since it was something she would do when she was young. So she got out a lot of her old oil paints, I started to paint randomly since she would not tell me what to do. All she told me was to paint an apple that showed contrast. Once I was done, I was actually pretty happy with my work, and so was everybody else, so my mom took me shopping to but all sort of tools I needed in order to paint. Including all of my grandma’s paint she gave to me. Now I really like painting with oil. It is sort of like a therapy, and thanks to my grandmas vision to think I could paint, now I do it all the time. That was also what I did when I couldn’t find anything else to do.
Before I went to visit my grandparents I bought a new series that a close friend had recommended for me, it was Gossip Girl. That was another thing I would do when I was bored. I ended up loving the series. It was all I expected it to be. Now I am waiting to buy the second season and get going. I had an amazing time. That is, until Saturday. We were all settling down to have lunch, when all of a sudden my whole family runs out the door to the patio. I had no idea what was going on and just stayed in place. My mom then violently screamed for me to go outside. The second I stepped on to the grass I felt as if the floor would rip open. Never in my life had I been in a earthquake, let alone one of 7.4 on a Richter scale. It lasted about 50 seconds, which seemed more like an hour. My whole family was very scared, but to be honest, I was not that scared. It was more like weird. The feeling was like something I had never felt. I was practically loosing my balance. I could see all around the neighborhood as all of the people would run screaming from their houses into their cars. Once the nightmare was over, we thought it would all end. That was obviously not the case. There were estimated more than 600 aftershocks, but we only felt about 8 of them.
That whole next week as we traveled on the car, we could see some serious damage that stores and houses had. The ones with the most damage were definitely the Oxxos. We could easily see how badly prepared they were. It was as if they were mad of pure paper. When we tried to go shopping, everything was closed. It was kind of sad because my brother wanted to do his shopping but his favorite stores were mostly closed. Most things were closed the next few days. It was a different to have a new experience like this one, but not when it affects so much people. To our house, it didn’t do that much damage, but to the houses of the poor people it did. Now they have to sleep outside in tents because their houses are completely destructed.
After all of that fun, it was time to go back to Puerto Vallarta. Once we got here, my parents took us to eat tacos. They were delicious like always. It was getting late and I really wanted to get home to unpack all of my many things. There were many things to unpack, so it did take me a really long time, but once I was done, I felt more in place. The next day my mom, some friends, and I went down to the pool for a little while. We talked a lot about our spring break since today was our last day of it. I personally would have wanted to have one week more, but that was not the case. Now I can’t wait for next years Spring Break to do all the things I couldn’t do in this Spring Break, and please with no more earthquakes.
