Interwar Years Essays

After World War I, the years 1919-1938 were not the happiest ones for either Germany, France, Britain, the US, and China/Japan. The war left these countries extremely weak, both economically and physically. For example, in France there was an increasing death rate, and a decreasing birth rate, causing the lack of work. In the UK, there were about 3 million people without jobs, in France also millions were unemployed, and in the US people were also unemployed. Those who were lucky worked in farm or work camps for minimum wages, and last, Italy was also unhappy economically.

Though, the worse was Germany, because they were the ones being blamed for the whole war. The countries were mad that thanks to Germany their whole perfect economy went down. France is the perfect example. They were completely powerful before the war with no complications, yet after the war it was completely different story. France had lost millions of men and along with them their economy. The franc had lost about 50% of its value. They were forced to ask for money to various countries but did nothing to try and pay it back. So they simple decided to point all fingers to Germany, under Raymond Poincare. Germany would not be whiling to blindly pay for something they were not entirely responsible for. So, France’s impatience forced them to invade Germany in order to have the money paid. It was useless; France made no impact and continued to lose more money. Until 1928 when Poincare made the wise move to devaluate the franc, which paid their debts off perfectly.

The UK as well was left with no government business, as was the US, Japan, and Italy. Japan was not so far off, their economy also dropped massively. There was even rioting involved. Many jobs that people would have completely vanished thanks to the lack of economy. Nobody could support those jobs anymore. Next, Italy was starting to use more materials than what they had, spending more money than what they had, which was deficit spending. Theses economic problems made Italy want to also follow a Fascist government, as Germany would also later want. Therefore, Italy was going to be dictated by Benito Mussolini. Who would be later known as, “His Excellency Benito Mussolini, Head of Government, Duce of Fascism, and Founder of the Empire”. Along with his “black shirts” (group of Fascist people), he remained in power. He even made a pact of Steel with Hitler, but Hitler was more concerned with his progress than Mussolini’s, so he was pretty much left in the dark. Ultimately, with this dictator, Italy got nowhere, because Mussolini was not in the slightest bit concerned about solving Italy’s problems. He was only planning on how to attack his opponents.

On the other hand, Germany was on the way to recovering, but there was still unemployment; so people were starting to want to follow fascism. Since they saw it as the only way out. President von Hindenburg was in power as a monarch, but Adolf Hitler brought him down exceptionally quickly. Adolf Hitler was an arising power that was not at all happy with Germany’s defeat in World War I, blaming it all on Jews and Socialists, as well as his anger toward the loss of German territory in the Treaty of Versailles. He later broke that treaty by starting to create a massive military force. He started gaining power with his Nazi soldiers to whom he brainwashed with propaganda since they were young. Hitler would arrange youth camps to teach children his “ways”. He would be spreading ideas of Anti-Semitism, which was the grudge against Jews, Rabbis, Priests, or any impure race like handicapped, homosexuals, and gypsies. He wanted a mass organization that would be perfect with no impurities, and also take over Europe. In 1939, concentration camps and ghettos where constructed. Then the war began with the invasion of Poland.

Ultimately, this interwar period was a buildup of grudges and he changes. Some were victorious in the war, but not victorious economically. Others held grudges against countries, others were simply looking for ways out of that misery, and other simply sought for ultimate power of Europe. All of these reasons, equally important, are what made World War II break out and never be forgotten.

Prezi vs. Power Point

I actually really did like Prezi. It is a million times better than power point. It has a lot more animations and options to add. Even better than that, it is easy and fun to use. It’s not so serious and typical like power points are. I can bet that if teachers used Prezi rather than power point, they would have a lot more kids paying attention. It seems like a fun way to show or teach. The only thing I would change is that since there is a whole platform to edit, it makes things a bit confusing. If there would be like a sort of way to differentiate the different slides it would be a bit easier and maybe more organized. That would be only thing I would want to change. The rest is pretty perfect and most of all, entertaining. The easy thing about working with it is that you don’t get lost very easily, since everything is well pointed out stating what you need to do. Again, the only thing difficult is the huge platform, and maybe even the zooming in and out gets a bit confusing at times.

Given the option, I would definitely choose Prezi. For me, as a teenager, those sorts of programs are much better since what we want is something fresh and entertaining. Not some boring old program people use to bore people to death. Power point is something we are all familiar with, and ultimately, it’s a big challenge to make a power point fun to watch. There’s not so much animations and zooming in and out to make it really entertaining. There’s actually not many new things to learn about power point. Whereas, in Prezi there are so many more options for everything. Everything from teaching, to informing, to entertaining, and to simply having fun. Prezi seems like the way to go. For people my age and from other ages al well.

PSA Video Responses

My process of making my video was pretty easy. At first, my partner and I made a PowerPoint stating the whole idea of what the scenes would include. After making adjustments, my partner and I filmed our scenes. Next, we had a few errors while filming which we later did change. What I would now change, is the whole story plan. I would have wanted to make it a bit more dramatic in order to truly explain the dangers there can be.

The video that was definitely the best was Mahonry and Raul’s. It was entertaining to watch and the quality was perfect. The music was also very well blended in to the whole concept. They were the ones who most went to the point, and was very well filmed.

PSA

My understanding of a PSA is that it is an advertisement that is aired on television, the radio, or other sorts of media. The objective of this advertisement is not to sell, it more to raise an awareness or interest of a particular issue. The most common topic would be about health and safety. It is basically what health teachers or advisers do to school kids. The topics that are aired change over time and depending on the places. It is a like selling an idea and a way of life, not a product. But it might sell a non specific range of products, like condoms to advertise safe sex. It’s not a special kind of condom, but it is the object.

I would like to work with Adriana because we live close together and are good friends, which makes it easier to work with. Also, we have many props in hand. My second option would be to work with Debora because we have worked in other projects together and usually come up with good ideas. My final option would be Priscilla, because we too have worked in other projects together and live close by.

• Safe sex
• Not drinking while driving
• Animal abuse
• Taking drugs
• Entering gangs
• Car safety
• Dangers of the internet
• Nutritional problems
• Vandalism
• Theft
• Staying in school

The 3 I would most be interested would be: Nutritional problems, safe sex, and dangers of the internet. With nutritional problems, you can really make people and girls, open their eyes to see the real dangers there are while being anorexic or anemic. To reach out to parents who might have daughters going through this problem. Also maybe even the girl, who is only trying to stay skinny but really is not open to the other possibilities. These are strong problems that may end with a person’s life. The next idea would be safe sex, which is probably the most famous right now. All teens undergo the pressure of having sex. It is something that mostly all people will go through and must be completely prepared. This means as much as with the partner, and with their health. To advertise that people should always use a condom, and be sure that what they are doing and in the time that they are doing it is correct. Lastly, the dangers of internet. Some people are not aware of the creeps and psychos that there are available around your corner. It would advertise that children especially should be careful what information they post on Facebook, and who they are talking to. Never trust the sites that ask for way too much information, and even less the people that you have no idea who they are.

Commercials

Definitely, my favorite Super Bowl commercials were the Doritos-2011-House Sitting, Volkswager-2011-Darth Vader, and Doritos-2011-Adam and Eve. These are my favorites because they are the most entertaining, yet they don’t go completely off track. It makes you have some fun, and memorize what the product they are trying to sell is. These are definitely commercials that are worth watching. The one of “House Sitting” is really fun, because it’s humorous. The “Darth Vader” one is cute and innocent, and the “Adam and Eve” one is also funny and typical. These are the commercials that make us pay attention.

The Pepsi MAX-2011-First Date commercial was neither as entertaining nor appropriate. Its no secret that kids from ages of 10-13 are also open to watching the super bowl, and a commercial promoting the idea that men only think about sex may not be the best way to promote Pepsi. There could have been many other entertaining ways to make people want to buy a Pepsi, or even be craving for one. I just found it a bit general, that in a first date the man only thinks about sex. What I would have done differently was make it more about the taste of the new Pepsi or something like that. Not so much the craving for it.

My favorite classmate commercial was definitely Jorge Vitals’. I found it as the best one because it goes right to the point; it’s entertaining, and its original. The filming is very well done, and the music fits in perfectly. His last catch phrase was awesome, and really makes you want to go buy a coke and start running. He remains serious throughout the video, and promotes what he needed to promote in 30 seconds. Which is not easy at all, and even less so when its as entertaining as his was. People could watch that video many times and still not get bored.

Monster vs. RedBull Commercial

Commercials

I really enjoyed watching the Dove Evolution commercial. It is very clear the message it is trying to portray, and I am very glad it does. It was about time that all the model aspirants realize that their role models are not entirely who they pose to be. It is very easy to simply smash on makeup, have a professional photo shoot, and be photo-shoped completely and make an ordinary girl look like a Goddess. Girls should not obsess on perfect bodies and look for perfection, because it does not exist, as the video shows. Girls should understand and accept themselves for who they are. These sorts of commercials are the ones that should be on TV rather than the ones who just care to sell. This commercial cares to open peoples’ eyes. The commercial that comes to my mind is the Nissan Leaf commercial referencing to Global Warming. It had a very profound effect on me since it definitely makes people open their eyes to a whole new light about how horrible global warming is, and how sad. I can bet those are the types of commercials that really sell to people, in an emotional level and not so much a vanity level.

I will definitely use the emotional side elements in order to make a change and actually sell. Although, it is not the same to make a statement as to make people feel guilt. Even though a commercial lasts a very short amount of time, it does make a change and gets people thinking that there are ways to help out. In my commercial, I will first start out making a statement of a very well known problem of the world, and then I will use that problem to make a solution, which in his case is the object that I want to sell. The challenges will be to make it actually look real and make a good point about the situation. That is what a commercial should portray and I will make it work by speaking the truth. No lies like in practically every makeup commercial. I will look for natural perfection not fake perfection.
